New Line Buys 'Gears of War' Movie Rights
[Ure "Vader" Paul] 04:45 am EDT @ March 21st, 2007
New Line Cinema received feature rights to Epic Games' highly successful X360 shooter Gears of War, with Stuart Beattie writing the adaptation and Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey producing via their Temple Hill banner. Stuart Beattie is also credited for various Hollywood movie scripts such as, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Collateral, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and the upcoming 3:10 to Yuma and 30 Days of Night.
Studio's deal is with Epic, the game's developer, which held onto all ancillary rights to the property when Microsoft signed on to publish the game. Though not announced yet, a sequel vidgame is assured. If development of both projects goes smoothly, New Line and Epic would surely love to see the film and a game sequel come out around the same time.
"We wanted to make an entertainment property that's not just for games but for other media," said Epic VP and co-founder Mark Rein.
"I'm not a gamer, but what blew me away about 'Gears' was how it captures the mythology of a war mission and how high the stakes are," Godfrey told Daily Variety.
Shhh... can't you hear them, folks? Listen, they're saying: "Bucks, bucks, we want more bucks!" Yes, pure financial gain and lust for nothing more than box office greatness are the only motivations I can see behind such a project. I fail to comprehend artistic merit of making a Gears of War movie. It's a snap judgment I know, but I'm really starting to get annoyed with this whole issue. Movie directors are making video games and game designers create games with the intention of turning them into lucrative movie franchises. Movies and video games are separate forms of artistic expression and a distinct line should be drawn between the two.
Catch the whole story on the Gears of War movie over at Variety.

In defense of the movie...
Resident evil was a GREAT movie both times around. That's a concept that game off a game.
Not Gears does NOT have the storyline or background that RE did- but with a creative mind I think that could be changed.
I'll watch RE over and over again...
I dont think I culd take another sitting of "Doom"

I don't think the goal of this is to make it a great movie. They wanted a smash hit Xbox 360 or possible shooter series turned into a movie. Halo was supposed to turn into a movie but that went nowhere. So whats the runner up for being as good or better than halo? Gears of War. I heard from some people thats also a trilogy like the Halo series. GOW is now known as much as Halo is so put it on a screen and a lot of Fanboys and other movie goers will come to see it. Thats all they want DA MONEY.

PRINCE OF PERSIA MOIVE?! WOOT? well around IGN they have a God of War Movie article so I applaud having both great action games move to a big screen.
Eh? well heres a little tid bit about PoP: the Movie 2009?
IESB.net has learned that Transformers director Michael Bay will reunite with producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney on the big screen version of best-selling video game Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
The game is set in medieval Persia, Earth's mightiest and most mysterious kingdom, where a king and his son defeat the powerful Maharajah and kidnap his daughter, looting his palace of priceless treasure, including an extravagant hourglass, and a mysterious dagger.
What the Prince does not realize, is that these two objects can turn their possessor into an immortal god, and give him control over time itself. Tricked by a dying Vizier bent on harnessing this terrible magic for himself, the Prince releases the sands of time, destroying a kingdom and turning its populace into ferocious demons. Only the Prince, the Vizier, and Princess Farah, the kidnapped daughter of the Maharajah, remain unchanged. Now, it is up to the young Prince of Persia to call upon every resource and ounce of courage he possesses to save his kingdom and redeem his fatal mistake.
Bay and Bruckheimer previously teamed on Bad Boys, The Rock, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor and Bad Boys II. The studio is eyeing a summer 2009 release ofr "Prince of Persia."

Could this be a first look at the Joker? Well I know the Batman News might be getting boring for some, but CLEARLY this movie will be a Summer 2008 Hit.

No, body can tell if its the "final" look of the Joker its clearly a make up test and I followed a comparison with a Heath picture and the nose and eyes are his. People have mixed reactions that he looks like Ichi the Killer and stuff but I clearly don't mind the look SO far. Its how hes going to act and play his role with Batman.
Whats your view?
